SIDS in Child Care

  • Two thirds of US infants spend some time in child care. They spend an average of 22 hours per week in child care.
  • Approximately 20 % of SIDS deaths occured while the infant was in the care of a nonparental caregiver.
  • Infant tended to be white with older, more educated parents.
  • Approzimetely 1/3 of SIDS-related deaths in childcare occur in the first week, 1/2 of these on the first day.
